Book Review - The Two Towers - submitted by Beregond5

The TT book is called thus, because the separate plots are dominated by the Tower of Orthanc, where Saruman the Wizard resides, and the Fortress of Minas Morgul. This book picks up from where the FotR ended, and from then onward, the writer has to tangle three different plot threads which hardly intertwine. However, it is done masterfully, as the book has a much quicker pace and far more action than the FotR, while some new characters that are important for the continuation of the story are being introduced, thus keeping the reader always interested.

Again the book is separated into two parts. The first part tangles with two threads of the plot: the one being the story of Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, and the other describes the adventures of Merry and Pippin. The second part tangles with the remainder of the fellowship, Frodo and Sam, as they continue their own quest with a brave heart. This second part is actually a hymn to friendship and heroism, which can be displayed by the most unlikely person imaginable. The plots are only subtly intertwined and one character alone is able to pull all the strings at once; this makes him also the key that connects all events. The story ends again in a cliff-hanger, only to continue and conclude in the RotK book.
